JL Design & Build: the name Kevin Tan chose to carry on

JL Design & Build Enterprise was founded in Melaka in 2023 by Kevin Tan (陈菘延). The JL name is older than the company, and so is Kevin’s experience on site.

How JL Design & Build started, and why the name stayed

In 2010, at 20, Kevin started working in renovation alongside his elder brother, the founder of the original JL Design & Build Sdn. Bhd.

Those years on site taught him the whole job: materials, workmanship, coordinating trades, and turning a drawing into a room people actually use. They also shaped his view that good design has to be practical, buildable and built with care.

When his brother stepped away from the industry, the original company closed. Kevin didn’t want the story behind the name to end there. In 2023 he set up JL Design & Build Enterprise, carrying the name into a new chapter with his own team.

The name has a history. The vision is now our own.

Quality you can check

Quality starts with details: planning, materials, workmanship and finishing. Carpentry is built in plywood or aluminium, and you inspect the finishing before the final 10% is paid.

Service that keeps you informed

A renovation should be clear, not stressful. We tell you what’s happening at each stage, and we don’t push upgrades you didn’t ask for.

Responsibility after the handover

You trusted us with your home or shop, so the work stays ours. If something needs attention within 1 year of completion, we come back.

Who will be working on your house

JL runs projects with its own team instead of handing your job to whoever happens to be free. Kevin coordinates the work from the design stage to completion.
