JL DESIGN & BUILDMELAKA / JOHOR / KUALA LUMPUR
Melaka carpentry made to measure, for homes and shops
Melaka carpentry by JL Design & Build means built-in furniture measured on site and made in plywood or aluminium: kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, TV walls, partitions and shop counters. Every piece is drawn first, so you see it before anything is cut.
01 / What we build
What we build in carpentry
Kitchen cabinets
Upper and lower cabinets, tall fridge bays and islands, with lighting under the wall cabinets.
Wardrobes and walk-ins
Full-height wardrobes, glass-panel doors, and walk-in wardrobes like the rattan-cane one at Bali Residence.
TV walls and feature walls
Slatted timber TV walls, backlit panels and floating consoles.
Partitions and display cabinets
Slatted partitions that divide a hall without closing it off, and lit glass display cabinets.
Shop counters and shelving
Reception counters, cashier counters and perimeter shelving, built around how your staff work, from Ah Mok Shop’s cashier counter to the front desk at Kimvets.
02 / Materials
Plywood or aluminium: choosing what your cabinets are made of
We build carpentry in two main materials. Plywood is the usual choice for wardrobes, TV walls and display units, and it takes laminate and wood-grain finishes well.
Aluminium suits wet areas such as kitchens, because water doesn’t make it swell. If your old kitchen cabinets swelled in humid weather, they were most likely particle board. Not sure which fits? We’ll recommend one for each room in your quotation.
03 / How it’s made
How your built-in furniture gets made
Site measurement
We measure the actual walls and floors, not just the floor plan.
Drawing
You see the design before anything is cut, including finishes and lighting points.
Fabrication
The cabinets are built to the drawing, in plywood or aluminium.
Installation and lighting
Installed on site, with LED strips, niches and sockets wired in by the same team.
04 / Price factors
What decides the price of your built-in furniture
We quote every piece after measuring, so there’s no price list. These four things decide most of the number:
- Size: carpentry is priced by length, so a full-height wardrobe wall costs more than a single unit.
- Material: plywood or aluminium, and the finish on top (laminate, wood-grain, glass).
- Doors and fittings: glass, rattan cane or solid doors, drawers and hinges.
- Lighting: LED strips and lit niches need wiring, which we include in the same quotation.

Yes. LED strips, lit niches and cabinet lighting are wired in by our team as part of the same job.

Do you also do carpentry for shops and clinics?
Yes. Counters, shelving and reception desks are a big part of our commercial work.
Can the carpentry be planned together with an extension?
Can the carpentry be planned together with an extension?
Yes, and it’s better that way. The same team builds the extension, so the cabinets are planned with the walls and the wiring and plumbing points end up exactly where the cabinets need them.
