Melaka commercial renovation for shops, salons, clinics and studios
Melaka commercial renovation by JL Design & Build takes a bare unit or a tired shop to opening day: partitions, ceilings, counters, lighting, wiring and the shopfront, all by one team.
Ah Mok Shop: a shop renovation for a 20-year-old business, rebranded with new shelving, a slatted counter and a woodgrain shopfront.
Beauty, hair and wellness
Two salon renovations, Good Skin Bar and Madam Yeo Hair Care, plus Ee Pilate Studio: three different looks, from lit arches to timber slats and sheer curtains.
Clinics and therapy centres
Clinic renovation for Kimvets Krubong (a vet clinic) and Beready Occupational Therapy Centre: reception counters, therapy rooms and steel frames for equipment.
New buildings
The Bachang Temple Office Building, built from empty ground to a finished two-storey block with an external staircase and a glazed upper floor.
An empty unit with two window walls became a pilates studio lit by daylight through full-height sheer curtains, with glass partitions and timber-look flooring.

03 / Fit-out sequence
How a shop fit-out runs, stage by stage
If you’re renting, the fit-out is often the gap between paying rent and earning from the shop, so the order of work matters.
1
Unit visit and drawings
We measure the unit and plan the layout around how customers and staff move, then draw it before work starts.
2
Partitions and services
Walls and partitions go up with the wiring, piping and air-conditioning points.
3
Ceiling, floor and lighting
Plaster or slat ceilings, the floor finish and the lighting layout.
4
Counters, shelving and carpentry
Reception desks, cashier counters, shelving and display units, built to the drawing.
5
Shopfront and handover
Facade, glass doors and the signage area, then a walk-through with you before the final 10%.
04 / Brand in the build
Your brand, built into the room
A fit-out is part of how customers remember you. At Kimvets, a cat runs through the design, from the cat-silhouette reception counter to the cat-shaped front window. At Good Skin Bar, lit arches frame the treatment beds and the product shelves.
We build these pieces ourselves, with the carpentry, ceiling and lighting done by the same team, so the idea in the drawing survives into the finished shop.
Yes. Ah Mok Shop, Kimvets and Madam Yeo all had their fronts redone along with the interior.
Can you build a new building, not just the interior?
Yes. The Bachang Temple Office Building was built from the footings up to the roof slab.
Do you take shop projects in Johor and Kuala Lumpur?
Yes. WhatsApp us the location and the unit size to get started.
Do you handle wiring, aircon and CCTV for shops too?
Yes. Electrical wiring, air-conditioning, alarm and CCTV are part of the same fit-out, so you don’t need separate contractors before opening.
What do you need from me to quote a shop?
The unit location and size, photos of the empty unit, your type of business, and your logo or brand colours if you want them built into the space.
THE NEXT CHAPTER / YOUR SPACE
Opening or refreshing a shop? Send us the unit details.
The location, the unit size and what the business is. Photos of the empty unit help. For a Melaka commercial renovation, the site visit and quotation are free.
